Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is a test that measures the mineral and heavy metal composition of the hair. The hair typically reflects the body’s level of mineral content and so can be used to assess mineral balance and toxic overload.
Over 35 different nutrients and toxic minerals are evaluated with each test. The root of the hair below the skin surface is a living matrix of cells and as the hair grows, minerals are keratinised into the growing hair shaft, creating a record of metabolic mineral activity and toxic exposure.
Mineral concentrations in the hair provide a reliable indicator of stores in the whole body, whereas blood tests can only tell us the circulating concentrations of minerals.
Your hair test report will not only give you readings of your current mineral and heavy metal levels but also some important ratios of certain minerals and toxic metals. These ratios can provide us with information about metabolic activity and biological function.
HTMA is a non-invasive screening tool to help us evaluate mineral depletions or toxic metal overloads and can be used to help in conditions such as:
Blood sugar Imbalance
Mood swings
Fatigue
Ratios between minerals such as sodium/potassium, calcium/potassium and calcium/magnesium can help determine metabolic function and provide information on how best to correct energy levels. Iron levels and the ratio of iron to other minerals are important considerations here.
Muscular/bone & joint problems
Important mineral ratios can show us if bones are susceptible to calcium or magnesium loss, or if zinc and copper levels are having an influence on joint inflammation.
Information about metabolic function lets us understand if there is increased or decreased bone turn over.
Headache or Migraine
Learning difficulties
Hyperactivity
Hormonal Issues
Since HTMA tests for minerals, you can not do this test if your hair is dyed, because dye contains too many chemicals.
